If you suspect your curious cat has snuck into a delivery van, here's what to do to increase your chances of a happy reunion.
Act Quickly:
Time is of the essence. The sooner you take action, the higher the chance of locating your cat. If you cat has got inside a van, then you need to find out the route the van was taking, as your cat could jump out at any location on route.
Contact the Delivery Company:
Identify the Van: If possible, try to remember the company logo or any markings on the van. If a neighbour is using a company for building works or they or you have had a a delivery and there is a chance your cat has popped in the back of the van. Then try to gather as much information as possible, eg timing and location.
Call the Company: Explain the situation and provide a detailed description of your cat, including breed, markings, and any collar information. Ask the company to provide you with the route and roads that the van called at.
Be Persistent: Don't give up after one call. Follow up and explain the urgency of finding your pet. Make sure you leave your details with the company, ask if the driver of the van can contact you. Try to relay as much information as possible and try to gain as much information from the company/driver.
Search the Area:
Visit area/roads : Once you have been given the information about the route the driver has taken you need to start searching. Try to get exact locations eg,
what roads the van stopped at. Leaflet and poster these areas, speak to ask many people as possible.
Search Nearby Businesses: Delivery vans often make multiple stops. Check nearby shops and warehouses, politely asking staff if they've seen your cat. Leave them contact details and email them photos of your cat.
Spread the Word:
Social Media: Post clear pictures of your cat with a "Missing Cat" message on social media platforms like Facebook and Nextdoor, highlighting your suspicion about the van. List the areas where your cat could have got out of the van.
"Lost Cat" Flyers: Print flyers with your cat's picture, description, and contact information. Distribute them in the areas where it is possible your cat could be.
